Appearance
As a vily, Chauntelle's appearance reflects the colors of a red rose. She is petite and is barely four foot ten inches tall β this is due to being a member of the fae community as ( generally ) faeries are known to be extremely small. Her skin is very slightly green β one has to be looking for it to be able to notice it, otherwise it isn't something prominent. Her hair falls down the length of her back in loose curls and is red in color. She resembles a human, two arms and legs, five fingers and toes; she lacks wings that other faeries have been known to be birthed with but has the elongated ears that resemble those of the elves. Vily are not fliers by blood. Her eyes are the last distinguishable aspect to her appearance: they are lime ( vibrant ) green and the color of her iris bleeds into her pupils, which can make it seem as though she lacks a pupil entirely.
Personality
She is a warm, friendly person who likes to laugh and sees the good in most everything. As a Guardian of Nature, she is protective of all things to do with nature and loves most any creature ( no matter their good/evil alignment. ) There is one exception to that: wolves β however this is for very good reason which is sorted within her history below.
Chauntelle is somewhat naΓ―ve, almost childish at times despite her great age, although much of that has to do with growing up within Gryfino Forest. She, like many vily, have not had the option to leave the greens and see the whole of the Earth. There is a sense of regality to her that shows through every once in a while as she is the chosen Vilyard to, eventually, replace her Mother. Despite the looming responsibilities as being the eventual replacement Mother Nature, she's known to be quite carefree and avoids getting bogged down with obligations.
As any young woman, she can be stubborn and has been known to have a flair for the dramatics. She's been known to take things too personally and then blame the dramatics of it on her lore, stating that at one point in time, vily were very vain and prideful so it is normal for her to have a moment here and there. Granting that, she's very sweet and has and eagerness to befriend anyone whom will speak with her. She is very non-judgmental and prefers to avoid any and all confrontation. Her ideal world is one of peace and harmony with all creatures. As the future Vilyard, she has high hopes to one day bring peace to not onto the forests of Gryfino, but all the other realms in Mother's care.
Fae vily such as herself are known to have a rather explosive ( literally ) temper. When they get angry, vily have been known to get fierce and attack in a fit of blind rage. Unfortunately, vily are not bred creatures for wars or fighting and many have been perished because of their blind tempers. To avoid the loss of anymore daughters, Mother Nature granted the ability to change when their rage affects them: becoming somewhat stronger, so that they will not be lost so easily. Chauntelle, however, has never faced this change. Her anger is generally not something that bothers her. Most often any anger is replaced with sorrow and she has never been made to change. That does not mean it is impossible for her to change, simply that it has never occurred as of yet.
There is a hardship that comes with vily sorrow. They are the only known creatures whom can perish to a literal broken heart. If a vily suffers too much heartbreak, it is said that they can wilt like a rose and die.
Abilities / Powers
β By birthright, vily are faeries and as such they are quite in tune with nature. One of the more interesting details that comes with this is a sense of omnilingualism. However, this is only in the sense of speech. Upon hearing a language, vily can pick up on it exceptionally quickly and speak it fluently as though it were their native tongue. This omnilingualism is only something that affects verbal communication β gaining the ability to speak words does not mean vily can read or write them. It does not translate that way.
β With Mother Nature as the mother of vily, bred by blood as opposed to the creatures Mother Nature creates, the faeries have the ability to commune with nature. In a sense, it has been known to "bow" to the will of the vily. Plantlife can come to their aid if called upon if they would like to. This means that plants ( trees, flowers, etc. ) and other aspects of nature ( rivers, waterfalls, etc. ) will help vily if needed. In example, vines can grow and tie up foes, water will rise from rivers to rain down on objects, etc. Vily cannot produce such miracles themselves, even with their mana, therefore they must ask for help. Aspects of nature such as weather is not a controllable force for vily.
β As mentioned, to assist with their lack of combat skills for when vily accidentally allow their rage to explode, Mother Nature granted her daughters an ability to change so they would not perish as quickly. They are granted flight and mana-offensive flames whilst in the changed form of a harpy. Flight and the flames are not attainable to any vily unless they are within their harpy form ( in other words, a calm vily cannot fly nor use flame-mana powers. ) In this "mode," vily lose the capability to speak and shriek in bird-like cries instead.
β Vily are natural born healers said to possess the mana skill to cure any and all ailments. They are also capable of bestowing any illness onto others, which can make them seem somewhat threatening. This is not a skill that is openly discussed and would take some background knowledge or having heard it via word of mouth. Healing and bestowing both require the vily to be touching the afflicted person, it cannot be used as an airborne effect. When using mana essence to heal, vily eyes will glow completely green. ( The iris, pupil and sclera will all become solid green. )
β As a harpy, vily eyes similarly change however in this form they will glow a solid red as to reflect their rage. As mentioned, once in harpy form the vily has the ability to use flame-mana. This fire burns so hot that it can melt flesh almost instantaneously and despite their healing methods, it cannot be healed by even vily mana. The flames erupt from their mouths and their bodies change; turning brown and feathered.
History
Vily are bred as daughters of blood to Mother Nature and her lover, Ixion β King of the centaur race. Despite the father's genes, these daughters are not equestrian in any manner whatsoever. They are humanoid beings whom, though much smaller in size, mimic the features of their mother. Vily are faeries β or fae for short. These girls are the only children bred from Mother Nature to be passed through her womb, making them her true blood daughters. As such, many in nature hold these daughters in high regard, almost as royalty for they share the same mana stream essence as the All-Mother. Among the vily themselves are a number of girls chosen by Mother whom truly represent the fae royalty. These girls are named the Vilyard and are chosen to eventually replace the Mother should something happen to her. The vilyard are simply the children she feels would be fitting a replacement and thus makes certain that other creatures see them as being of importance.
Unfortunately, it is the vily whom are a dying breed. These girls are immortal like their mother, however Ixion was not. It has been centuries since the last vily was born with the loss of Ixion. Since his passing, there have been other noble centaurs to rule as king, although none have shared love with Mother Nature β this is of her own choice. She loved and lost, and feels complete because of it. Vily, though immortal as depicted by their history, have been dying more within the last number of centuries. It is said that if a vily falls in love they will forsake their immortality and love alongside their lover until the partner dies. Once passed, the vily will also fall to their death.
In the last few centuries, many have perished either to love, rage, sorrow or murder. Asterion, the Minotaur overlord, had gathered the darkness and promised glory against the All-Mother to all whom joined in the fight. Human men whom had ventured into the wood had, at first, been allies to her mother but it all changed on a terrible evening under the watchful stare of the full moon.
Tempted by the scent of vily mana, a human man lured and kidnapped one of the vilyard. Once he had the fae princess away from the others, the human attempted to drain her of her mana to hoard it for himself. Vily, or the Mother's mana essence is literally their life source, but it bestows life onto any who partake in it. It is illegal in the laws of nature to murder a vily for her blood the same way that it is taboo to consume the essence of other pure beings such as unicorns. This man whom had been swayed by the dark whispers in the wood ended the vily's life and consumed her mana. It took Mother very little time to come across the scene, being spiritually linked with her daughters, she feels it when they are injured or pass.
Enraged by the sight, Mother Nature cursed the man to hunger like the wolf he had been acting as and to change forms into that of a hideous creature under the light of the full moon. Unfortunately, the curse is shared with other men when bitten by other beastmen whom have been dubbed werewolves. Eventually, the Minotaur race coaxed the wolf hoard to join their army against the All-Mother. Ever since, darkness has covered the wood. Minotaur, wolves and all others from the dark have played the war games with the light creatures for centuries.
It is with great sorrow that Mother Nature suffers watching her daughters fall victim to the men she cursed. She had not realized that her curse upon the humans would only magnified the wolfish desires in men. Her daughters became hunted and many of her vilyard were lost to the wolves. There are very few remaining and among the still living is the last born of Ixion, the youngest vily and one remaining vilyard to Mother Nature: Chauntelle.
Chauntelle had the misfortune of being born shortly after her King father had passed away. Her Mother believes that her daughter being so carefree is a result of the world giving her a vily with their father's personality to fill her void. Despite not knowing her equestrian father, Mother has told her much. Like other centaurs, he was a proud halfbeast with high regard for nature, the skies and stars and his clan. Although he sounded rather serious to her, Mother explained that when he was with her, everything became warm and free. Ixion had been one of the more free spirited beings she'd ever met. He saw the good in everything and believed that no matter how dark, the light would surely shine through any shadow. She saw much of his warmth and kindness in her child.
Like her many siblings, Chauntelle grew up in Gryfino Forest with their mother. The trees in Gryfino grew with a hooked, bent base as though they were literally bowing to Mother Nature's mana prowess. Vily lived with their mother in the hallowed halls of Vis β a homestead built within an enormous trunk of a tree. There, she spent most of her days chasing creatures along branches, rolling in leaves and hiding from the nymphs whom served as educators to her sisters, brothers and herself. They were taught all things centaur, satyr and vily alike, although most often she preferred to be off in the forest itself. The voices of the wood taught her enough, or so she felt. It meant more to hear the whispers in the winds than to be told by nymphs what she was supposed to know. Class lessons didn't fulfill her curiosity enough.
Secluded in the forest with the rest of her kind, Chauntelle has grown up for centuries within the wood. Mother Nature, while a force that lives globally on the Earth, had fear for her daughters leaving the forest grounds. For as long as she could remember, her mother and the creatures of darkness were at war and a black shroud has covered her mother's forest blocking out both the sun and the moon alike. There has never been a day that Chauntelle has seen what her sisters and brothers call the "sun," but deep within she has a desire to see it. Depicted in her books and taught in the lessons by the nymphs, she has gathered that it is a burning orb deep within the skies but words can only do so much. The same can be said for the moon although having never seen any "daylight," she yearns for that much more.
Unlike her sisters, Chauntelle has always had a desire to leave the forest and see the rest of the world, although has never attempted to pass the barricade in place from her mother's magic. She lives, at times, in a world of fantasies in which she pretends she is on the outside of the forest walls. It's all imagination, though, since she's never seen anything but leaves and bent tree trunks. Her dream for her position as vilyard is to unite the darkness and the light, bring them together in peace and venture into the worlds beyond Gryfino Forest. She has a deep faith that, eventually, her goal will come true.
